Shift Change.

He had a bit of time on his hands.
He was keeping watch until his shift was over.
It seemed like it was just yesterday, that he was picking out his prom corsage to match his date's, hot pink dress.
He loved his hometown routine; his Saturday pick up games, washing his Dad's mint 1965 Chevy Mustang, teasing his little sisters mercilessly, and best of all...he loved to play ball....any kinda ball.
He couldn't believe how much life had changed since then.
Now, he was married with a little one on the way.
What a turn of events.
But, he didn't mind.
He couldn't wait to lay his eyes on his sweet baby daughter.
What had changed the most was proximity.
What happened to that little town in Ohio?
He never dreamed that life would be like this.
It seemed like he always had dirt in his mouth...and sand in his eyes.
Sometimes, he found it hard to remember what that old life was like.
It seemed so long ago.
It was so loud where he was now...and yet so quiet.
He recognized the irony.
He was honored to defend his country and to be a part of freedom's solution, but sometimes he wondered if that was why he was there?
Was it for the better good, or for Power's personal agenda.
He hoped that he really was bringing a true positive resolution...that he was making a difference....and for a Reason of substance.
Either way, he was counting the minutes, and the hours and the days, until he had control over his future again...until he could see his family again.
Until he gets called to duty; again.
For now, he was just waiting until his shift was over.
Little did he know, that he just had a short bit of time on his hands.
